Some book!
You may notice (just search EB White on our site) we carry some non-boaty type books by EB White. Why? Well, he could write in the finest sense of the word. The Fair in the story is said to have been based on the local annual Blue Hill Fair. And we are connected: he made his home here in Brooklin, Maine when not in New York, and his son Joel who grew up here went on to become a Naval Architect at MIT, and started Brooklin Boatyard. We offer many of Joel's designs—so many that under our plans section we have a separate group of just his. Granted, this is one of the more lovely books you'll read, and should no doubt be offered by booksellers of all types.
Of Charlotte's Web, Eudora Welty writes in the NYTimes Book Review: "What the book is about is friendship on earth, affection and protection, adventure and miracle, life and death, trust and treachery, pleasure and pain, and the passing of time. As a piece of work it is just about perfect, and just about magical in the way it is done."
