Description
This kit was designed as an easy introduction to practical tool sharpening. It contains everything you need to get started sharpening and honing the most commonly used chisels and plane blades.
The kit follows what is known as the "Scary Sharp" method of sharpening. That's a a fancy way of saying you can use high quality sandpaper (lapping film) attached to a flat surface (flat glass) as a sharpening substrate. Combined with a simple clamping honing guide, it will help keep a new or freshly ground chisel or plane blade sharp. Note: If the edge of you tool is damaged or old, it will probably need to be re-ground.
Kit includes:
1- Clamping Honing Guide
2- 5/16" thick sheets of float g;ass (a super flat substrate to attach the lapping film to)
1- No-skid mat (to keep glass from moving on your bench)
1- Misting bottle (for water)
1- Squeegee (for applying film to glass)
1- 12" su. microfiber cloth (for wiping chisels and blades)
8- sheets of 3M micro finishing/lapping film w/pressure sensitive adhesive in the following micron sizes: 2 @ 1 micron (about 14,000 grit), 2 @ 3 micron (about 8,000 grit), 2 @ 12 micron (about 1,200 grit), and 2 @ 30 micron (about 600 grit)
